Four Sky players will be heading down to San Juan, Puerto Rico, this weekend to represent their native countries at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Tournament.

Forward Diamond DeShields, center Stefanie Dolson and first-round pick Katie Lou Samuelson earned spots on USA Basketball’s 12-member roster after competing in a three-day training camp in Miami, Florida, this week.

Likewise, forward Kayla Alexander will represent her native Canada in the weeklong AmeriCup Tournament, which will open Sunday in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

DeShields led the Sky in scoring this season, averaging 16.2 points. She also recorded 5.5 rebounds. And Dolson averaged 9.3 points on 51.9 percent shooting.

Meanwhile, Samuelson, the fourth overall pick in this year’s draft, struggled to earn consistent playing time under coach James Wade. She averaged just 7.7 minutes in 20 games and shot 27.6 percent from three-point range.

And Alexander, whom the Sky signed last month after they waived second-round pick Chloe Jackson, averaged three points in three games.

Several of Team USA’s biggest names — including Elena Delle Donne, A’ja Wilson and Sue Bird — were unable to participate in this year’s AmeriCup Tournament due to WNBA playoffs or injury.

Despite missing some of its star players, USA coach Dawn Staley believes she has a well-rounded team.

“We’ve got the USA National Team first timers, we’ve got multi-time Olympians and then we’ve got some players who are very young, but who had great WNBA seasons,” Staley said. “So, I think it’s great for us to see where our USA National Team pool is overall.”
