After burning through two-thirds of its original $32 million overtime budget by the end of April, Mayor Emmanuel said last week that the total overtime budget for this year would be increased to over $70 million and that the same number would be used next year. Today, at a budget hearing for Mayor Emanuel’s proposed 2014 budget, CPD Supt. Garry McCarthy said that the final OT budget for this year would swell to $93 million by the time it’s all said and done, nearly triple the original number.

City Hall reporter Fran Spielman will have more from the hearings later today.
