SOMEWHERE ON RTE. 80 EN ROUTE TO CEDAR RAPIDS, IA.–I’m typing using a camping headlamp, in a car as we’re driving in an ice storm from Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, where Oprah Winfrey will make her second stump appearence for White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)

Below are excerpts from Winfrey’s speech I just transcribed.

.No, Ive never done this before. And it feels like I am out of my pew, Im out of my terrain. Backstage somebody said, Are you nervous?

I said, Youre damn right Im nervous. Yes I am because Ive never done this before.

Excerpts, from the top…

“Iowa! Oh my goodness. Helloooo. At last, I’m here.

You know, so much has been said about what my jumping into this arena does or does not bring to the table of politics.

I really dont know. Im going to leave that all up to the pundits, who will say, will it be the same influence as her book club. Will it be like the Favorite Things show.

I dont know about all of that. Despite all of the talk, the speculation, and the hype, I understand the difference between a book club and a free refrigerator. That was a nice refrigerator.

I understand the difference between that and this critical moment in our nations history. And so I bathed, yes I did and I got dressed to come

There are times that I even worry about what happens to this country. And thats why, for the very first time in my life, I feel compelled to stand up and to speak out for the man I believe has a new vision for America.

So I am not here to tell you what to think. I am here to ask you to think, seriously,

I want you to think seriously about a man who knows who we are. And knows who we can be.

I am not here for partisan beliefs. Over the years, Ive voted for as many Republicans as I have Democrats.

So this isnt about partisanship for me. This is very, very personal. Im here because of my personal conviction.about Barack Obama and what I know he can do for America..

.No, Ive never done this before. And it feels like I am out of my pew, Im out of my terrain. Backstage somebody said, Are you nervous?

I said, Youre damn right Im nervous. Yes I am because Ive never done this before.

But if we continue to the same things over and over and over again, I know you get the same results. So what I believe is that it is time for us all to let dream America anew, by supporting Barack Obama.
