Rahm Emanuel defends finance aide, rips D.C.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel Wednesday passionately defended his chief financial officer, Lois Scott, the subject of a Chicago Tribune story this week that said she repeatedly has selected firms for city work that have ties to her.

“I left Washington … for a reason. I think it’s a rotten town,” Emanuel said during a meeting with the Chicago Sun-Times Editorial Board. “… Friends in the Clinton administration did nothing wrong, had both their legal bills run up and and their characters defamed where you can never get your reputation back.

“I happen to think it is honorable for people to go into public service. I asked Lois to do it. She doesn’t have a private sector business anymore. She has ably served the people of the city of Chicago.

“I left Washington because I think it is a crap town It deals with people’s reputations and characters as drive-by hits. And I am not going to participate it. … Nobody has anything that Lois has done wrong.

“… It’s the part of Washington I hated most.”
