Sneed is told the number of applications for Cook County gay marriage licenses is about to hit 1,000 — and 20 percent of them are from 23 states outside Illinois.

“We’ve had 950 license applications thus far and expect 1,000 by Friday,” said Courtney Greve, a spokeswoman for Cook County Clerk David Orr.

“We also expect the numbers to go up because of planned summer weddings and the 60-day period it takes to get a license,” she added.

The stats:

◆ The location factor: One-third of the license applications came from Illinois counties other than Cook and nearby states.
