A 12-year-old boy is in serious condition after he was shot Wednesday evening in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
The boy was outside in the 5900 block of West North at 6:15 p.m. when he heard gunshots and realized he’d been shot, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. He ran to a family member’s car for help, and that relative drove him to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Gaines said.
The boy was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Gaines said.
