Five people were shot across Chicago Thursday, including a man who was killed in Lake View on the North Side.
At 4:14 p.m., Daniel C. Cox, 53, was in a vehicle in the 3700 block of North Ashland Avenue when a white SUV approached him and someone inside opened fire, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Cox was hit in the neck and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The latest non-fatal shooting happened in Austin on the West Side.
A 20-year-old man was standing on the street at 8:23 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Quincy Street when he heard several gunshots and was hit in the leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. He told investigators he didn’t see where the shots came from.
About two hours earlier, a man was critically wounded in Brighton Park on the South Side.
The 30-year-old was on the sidewalk about 6:20 p.m. in the 4400 block of South California Avenue when three people approached him and one of them fired shots, police said. He was hit once in the abdomen, twice in the wrist and grazed in the hip. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Another man was wounded in Garfield Park on the West Side about an hour before that.
The 18-year-old was in a gangway about 5:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Huron Street when he was approached by an unknown person who opened fire, police said. The man was hit in the buttocks, and was able to take himself to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
The day’s earliest reported shooting wounded a man about 7:15 a.m. in Lawndale on the West Side.
The 29-year-old was in an alley in the 2800 block of West Arthington Street when a driver pulled up in a vehicle and fired shots, police said. The man, struck in the leg, took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
The shooter was driving a light blue or gray car, possibly a BMW, police said. The car was last seen fleeing westbound down the alley.
Wednesday’s shootings wounded five people across the city.
