Man dies days after being shot in West Garfield Park

A man who was shot over the weekend in West Garfield Park has died from his injuries.

Devon Byrd, 23, was pronounced dead Monday morning at Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in West Garfield Park.

About 7:46 p.m Oct. 25, Byrd was standing on the sidewalk in the 4700 block of West Gladys Avenue when someone in a dark-colored sedan opened fire, Chicago police and the medical examiner’s office said.

He was struck in the head and taken to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said at the time.

No arrests have been reported. Area North detectives are investigating.
