Man shot during attempted robbery in Chatham: police

The 25-year-old was walking out of an apartment building in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue when a male approached him and announced a robbery, police said.

A 25-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery Monday in Chatham on the South Side.

He was leaving an apartment building about 1:40 a.m. in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue when a male approached him on the sidewalk, Chicago police said. The male displayed a handgun and announced a robbery.

The man tried running away but was shot in the abdomen, police said. He took himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was treated and released.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
