A man was shot and killed Monday while driving in south suburban Matteson. 

Officers responded to calls of gunfire at 11:09 p.m. in the 5600 block of Allemong Drive in the Woodgate subdivision and found a red van crashed into landscaping next to a home, Matteson police chief Michael Jones.

The only occupant was a man found unconscious in the driver’s seat, Jones said. He was taken by paramedics to St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, and was transferred to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The man, identified as 24-year-old Darius Juzang, was pronounced dead at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy ruled his death a homicide by gunshot wound to the head, the medical examiner’s office said.

Police said they were investigating the homicide as an isolated occurrence.
