Person shot to death in Gary

A person was shot to death Tuesday evening in northwest Indiana.

Officers responded shortly before 10 p.m. to a home in the 500 block of Taney Street, where they found an unresponsive male with gunshot wounds, Gary police said in a statement.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:15 p.m., the Lake County coroner’s office said.

The coroner’s office said the male was a “John Doe,” and ruled his death a homicide.

A Gary police spokesperson declined to provide additional details.

Gary police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the Metro Homicide Unit at 219-755-3855.
