Man shot dead in Pilsen argument; suspected shooter in custody

The 35-year-old was arguing with a male in the 1600 block of South Allport Street when he was shot multiple times, police said.

Charges are pending against a man suspected of fatally shooting someone during an argument Thursday in Pilsen on the Southwest Side.

Two men were arguing outside about 11:23 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Allport Street when one of the pulled out a weapon and fired shots, Chicago police said.

One man was struck in the head and upper body multiple times, police said. He tried driving away but crashed into a parked vehicle nearby.

The man, identified as 36-year-old Aaron Smith, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the same block where he was shot.

Smith’s death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy said he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The other man remained on scene and was taken to UIC Hospital in good condition with wounds to his face from the fight, police said. He was arrested and charges are pending.
