One person was wounded in a shooting Wednesday in north suburban Zion, according to police.

About 9:20 p.m., a group of people were in an alley in the 1700 block of Joppa Avenue when someone approached them and opened fire, Zion police said in a statement.

A person in the group fled in a vehicle before before crashing into a yard a block away and running off, police said.

One person was taken to a hospital for a possible gunshot wound, but later refused treatment, police said.

Zion detectives are investigating.
