About 6:50 p.m., Makei A. Smith was in a backyard in the 1300 block of South Lawndale Avenue when shots rang out, striking him in the hip and chest, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Smith was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. He lived in Lawndale

The other shooting injured a food delivery driver in Garfield Park on the West Side.

The 45-year-old man was driving about 11:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of West Van Buren Street when someone got out of a gray car and fired shots, police said. The man, who had just made a delivery on that block, was struck in the chest. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
