A 15-year-old boy was shot in the head and killed Wednesday in south suburban Hazel Crest.

Jamini Sutton was shot about 2:30 p.m. at 171st Street and Park Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Sutton was sitting in a vehicle with three people stopped at a traffic light on Park Avenue facing south at 171st Street when a vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired shots, Hazel Crest police said.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, and later airlifted to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Sutton, of Hazel Crest, was pronounced dead the next day at 5:30 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy released Friday ruled his death a homicide.

Police said a male also suffered a graze wound in the “targeted attack.”

No arrests have been reported. Hazel Crest police are investigating.
