Man shot, killed in Gary

Wanya Burnside, 21, was shot about midnight in the 3500 block of West 47th Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A man was killed in a shooting last week in northwest Indiana.

Wanya Burnside, 21, was shot in the head around midnight Nov. 1 in the 3500 block of West 47th Avenue in Gary, Indiana, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. 

He was pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m. Nov. 3 at the University of Chicago Medical Center, the medical examiner’s office said. 

An autopsy released Tuesday ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said. He lived in Gary. 

Gary police did not immediately provide additional information on the shooting.
