Police are warning business owners about two robberies that happened on the same day this month in Belmont Central and Avondale on the North Side.
The robberies happened hours apart from each other Dec. 9, Chicago police said. In both cases, the suspect approached the counter, displayed a handgun and demanded money. In one of the incidents, the suspect also demanded a cellphone at a phone store.
The first robbery happened about 4:51 p.m. in the 6300 block of West Grand Avenue, police said. The other took place about 6:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Belmont Avenue.
The suspect is described as a man 18 to 38-years-old, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 and 140 to 200 pounds, police said. He was wearing a black hoodie covering his face, blue jeans and gloves, police said. He drove off in an older, dark-colored four-door Toyota sedan.
