Man fatally shot in South Shore

The man was found shot in his vehicle at 2:17 a.m. in the 2800 block of East 79th Street.

A man died Thursday after being shot in South Shore, police said.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 2:17 a.m. and found the 36-year-old critically wounded in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was stopped on a sidewalk in the 2800 block of East 79th Street, Chicago police said.

Lamario Birge had been shot twice in the chest and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in South Deering.

There are no witnesses to the shooting at this time, police said. Area South detectives are investigating.
