First-degree murder charges have been filed in a fatal shooting March 15 in north suburban Spring Grove.

A Spring Grove man is facing murder charges for a shooting Wednesday in the northern suburb.

John Maki Jr., 47, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the death of Dylan Sanchez, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in McHenry County Circuit Court.

He is accused of fatally shooting Sanchez inside a home in the 11100 block of Serenity Path in Spring Grove, according to court documents and the McHenry County sheriff’s office. Authorities were called to the home about 7:15 p.m. and found Maki inside with Sanchez’s body.

An autopsy found Sanchez, 18, died of a gunshot wound to the face, according to the McHenry County coroner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Maki, who lives on the same block, is being held at the McHenry County Jail on $5 million bail, according to court records. His next court date was set for May 31.
