A teen died after he was shot while riding his bike Thursday in West Garfield Park.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert about 10:55 p.m. and found 16-year-old William L. Galloway lying on the ground unresponsive in the 4400 block of West Maypole Avenue, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He had gunshot wounds to his head and neck, authorities said. Galloway was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead the next day.

A woman who identified herself as the teen’s aunt told a Sun-Times photographer at the scene that Galloway was riding home on his bike when he was shot.

An autopsy conducted Saturday by the medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide, saying he died of a gunshot wound to the neck.

Investigators don’t have any witnesses and don’t know the circumstances of the shooting, police said.

Area North detectives are investigating.
