In the first incident, the robber approached a woman from behind about 3 a.m. June 17 in the 5700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to a community alert from Chicago police. He grabbed her purse, knocked her to the ground and ran away.

The second robbery happened about 7:30 p.m. June 21 in the first block of East Garfield Boulevard, police said. The man stuck a hard object in the victim’s back and threatened to shoot her if she did not give him her purse.

Both victims are women in their 60s, police said. The suspect is described as a man between 20 and 30 years old with dreadlocks.
