A woman has been charged after she was involved in a fatal hit-in-run Saturday that killed a 51-year-old woman in Lawndale on the West Side.

Dereknesha Brown, 21, has been charged with felony driving under the influence causing an accidental death as well misdemeanor counts of DIU, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield to a pedestrian and driving without a driver’s license, Chicago police said.

Annie Johnson, 51, was standing on the street about 12:49 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Homan Avenue when Brown drove her black Chevrolet Cruze southbound “at a high rate of speed” and hit her, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Brown fled the scene.

Johnson was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. She lived in Lawndale.

Brown, of North Lawndale was arrested Saturday when she turned herself into authorities, police said.

She has has a bond hearing scheduled for Monday at Central Bond Court, police said.
