A 26-year-old man faces charges after he was arrested Sunday for allegedly firing shots towards police officers in Lawndale on the West Side.

Danny Martinez, of Waukegan, faces a felony charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm towards a police officer, Chicago police said.

Officers in a marked squad car were stopped at a stop sign about 3:24 a.m. in the 1800 block of South Kostner Avenue, when it is alleged that Martinez fired shots in their direction from a black Nissan sedan, police said.

The vehicle was stopped a block south, Martinez and a 35-year-old woman were taken into custody, police said. A weapon was recovered and no officers were injured in the incident.

After an investigation, the woman was released and Martinez was charged accordingly, police said.

He has a bond hearing set for Monday.
