A man was killed in a shooting Monday in South Shore on the South Side.

Willie Washington, 18, was standing on the sidewalk when a vehicle pulled up about 8:30 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Phillips Avenue, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Two males got out of the vehicle and shot Washington multiple times, police said. They got back into the vehicle, which drove off.

Washington was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the back of the head and several other parts of the body, police said. He was pronounced dead at 8:52 a.m.

An autopsy released Tuesday ruled Washington’s death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area South detectives are investigating.
