A man was killed and a woman wounded Sunday in separate shootings in Gary, Indiana.

The woman was wounded in a drive-by about 8 p.m., Gary Police Commander Jack Hamady said in a statement.

The 41-year-old was in a vehicle in the 3300 block of East 12th Avenue when she heard gunfire and realized she was hit in her forearm, Hamady said.

The driver of the vehicle took her to Methodist Northlake Hospital, Hamady said. She was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for a specialist who could treat damage to her bones.

The shooter was described as a white male in a pickup truck, Hamady said.

In a separate shooting Sunday, a man was killed inside a home in Gary.

A woman called police at 11:04 p.m. to report that her boyfriend was shot inside a home in the 5200 block of East 13th Place in Gary, Gary police said.

Officers arrived to find Reginald Hamilton dead inside the home with a gunshot wound to his chest, according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators learned Hamilton was at the home for a gathering with several other people that evening when a rifle discharged, killing him, authorities said.

Another male who was inside the home was taken to a hospital with head injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, police said. Investigators believe other people inside the home may have battered him after the gun went off.

The rifle was recovered at the scene and detectives are still looking into the circumstances of the shooting, police said.
