A homeowner fired a gunshot in his Wilmington home Wednesday after confronting one of two teens who fled police over 50 miles away from south suburban Calumet City.

After an hours-long manhunt, the pair was in custody in connection to a vehicle that was stolen at gunpoint earlier that morning, Wilmington Police Chief Phillip Arnold said in a statement.

Around 6 a.m., Dolton police chased a vehicle that was reported stolen at gunpoint in Calumet City, Arnold said. The pursuit ended after the suspects crashed the vehicle and ran off into a residential neighborhood in Wilmington.

While officers were conducting a manhunt, one of the suspects, a 17-year-old, broke into a home but fled after the homeowner discovered him in the kitchen area and fired a shot, Arnold said. The teen was arrested without incident in a backyard next door.

The second suspect, another 17-year-old, was found hiding in a pole barn in Wilmington just before 10 a.m. and taken into custody, Arnold said.

Charges were pending against the teens, Arnold said.
