3 shot Monday in Chicago

Three people were wounded Monday in shootings across Chicago.

A 22-year-old man was injured in the day’s latest shooting, which happened in Austin on the West Side.

He was standing on the sidewalk about 8:35 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Mason Avenue when a Chevrolet Malibu driving southbound stopped and someone got out of the car and opened fire, Chicago police said.

He was struck in the hip and taken to the Loyola University Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Earlier Monday, a 27-year-old man was wounded in a shooting on the Near West Side.

He was in his vehicle about 4:40 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Gladys Avenue when a male about 18-years-old came up and asked his name, police said. When the older man said his name, the younger man opened fire, striking him six times in the lower body before running off.

The 27-year-old drove himself to the 300 block of South Kedzie Avenue to flag down officers, police said. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.

In the day’s first reported shooting, a 54-year-old man was wounded in Marquette Park on the South Side.

He was standing on the sidewalk about 3:09 a.m. in the 6500 block of South Maplewood Avenue when someone in a vehicle opened fire, police said. The man was struck in the leg and his condition was stabilized at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

At least 53 people were shot last weekend in incidents of gun violence across the city, claiming seven lives.
