Man shot on South Chicago porch

The 29-year-old was standing on the porch talking to his girlfriend on the phone when someone shot him in the 8900 block of South Burley Street, police said.

A man was shot and seriously wounded Friday while standing on a front porch in South Chicago.

The 29-year-old had just gotten home from work and was on the porch talking to his girlfriend on the phone when someone shot him about 7:55 a.m. in the 8900 block of South Burley Street, according to Chicago police.

A family member told investigators he opened the front door and said he needed an ambulance, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition with gunshot wounds to his left side and neck.

Area South detectives are investigating.
