Suspect arrested in shooting death of Dolton mother

A suspect is in custody in connection to the shooting death of Marshia Bowman, a mother killed while driving her children last month in south suburban Dolton.

The person of interest was in custody Wednesday afternoon, Dolton Police Chief Ernest Mobley told the Sun-Times.

An arrest warrant in Bowman’s murder was issued a week ago, Dolton trustee Andrew Holmes said at the time. He said police believed the suspect was still in the south suburbs.

Bowman, 40, was shot in the head Aug. 21as she was driving her girls — ages 1, 4, 8 and 9 — near the intersection of Sibley and Chicago roads, blocks from their home, Holmes said.

She crashed her minivan into a tree about 7 p.m., and was taken to a hospital, where she died two days later, authorities said. None of her kids was hurt.

Dolton police said the shooter may have been targeting a vehicle in front of Bowman’s.

Bowman is one of three females shot dead in the last month in Dolton. No arrests have been made in the other two murders, Dolton Police Chief Ernest Mobley said Wednesday.
