A man shot last week in Calumet City has died of his wounds.

Joshua Pilgrim-Smith, 20, was shot multiple times on Sept. 5 in the 300 block of Hirsch Avenue in the south suburb, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Pilgrim-Smith, who lived in Calumet City, was pronounced dead almost a week later on Sept. 11, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Calumet City police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Pilgrim-Smith’s death is the second fatal shooting in Calumet City in a week.

On Sept. 6, Tyreese Cooper was shot about 4:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of Sibley Boulevard, authorities said. He was taken to a trauma center, where the 26-year-old died. Cooper lived in Country Club Hills.

Calumet City has logged eight homicides so far this year, according to data from the medical examiner’s office. That’s an increase compared to three homicides in 2018 and two in 2017, according to the data.
