A 55-year-old woman was shot Friday in Gresham on the South Side.

She was outside about 1:04 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 76th Street when a male approached her and opened fire, striking her in the hip, Chicago police said. He fled westbound.

The woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where her condition was stabilized, police said.

No arrests have been made as Area South detectives investigate.
