An off-duty Cook County correctional officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Englewood Wednesday.

The vehicle the officer was in was headed north in the 5500 block of South Damen Avenue around 5:20 a.m. when it was struck by another vehicle that failed to yield at an intersection, Chicago police said.

That driver continued without stopping and the vehicle the person was in was later found abandoned nearby, police said. The vehicle had been totaled, and the driver ran away.

The victim was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition, police said. Cook County sheriff’s office spokesman Matt Walberg confirmed the victim was an off-duty correctional officer.
