A teenager was killed and two others wounded Wednesday when they tried to rob a drug spot in West Garfield Park, police say.

They pulled up in an SUV about 1:30 p.m., got out holding one gun and tried to rob two people standing on a corner in the 100 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue, according to Chicago police.

During the attempted robbery, a man stepped out of an alley and fired several shots at the teens, police said.

The teens got back in the vehicle and the 19-year-old driver, Tyrese Hearon, drove away but crashed nearby into two vehicles and a tree, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Hearon had been shot multiple times and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died, authorities said. He lived in Englewood.

The others, 15 and 19 years old, were shot in their legs and taken to Stroger in good condition, police said.

Investigators believe the shooting was a “narcotics-related robbery,” police said. A gun was recovered near the vehicle.

The two teens who were shot, and another person in the SUV, were taken into custody, police said. No charges have been filed.

Shortly after the shooting, officers taped off the site of the car crash on Kilpatrick between Monroe Street and Jackson Boulevard.
