Man found shot to death in Back of the Yards

A 47-year-old man was found fatally shot Monday in Back of the Yards on the South Side, according to police.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert about 8:20 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Hermitage Avenue, where they found him in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle, Chicago police said.

The man, identified as Alfonso Viramontes, had a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy released Tuesday found he died of multiple gunshot wounds to his head and neck, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area Central detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
