Five people were shot Wednesday in Chicago, including a 33-year-old man who was shot after getting into a confrontation with another man in Fuller Park on the South Side.

The man and a 28-year-old were arguing about 5:10 p.m. on the sidewalk in the 4200 block of South Wells Street when the younger man pulled out a handgun and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The older man was hit in the leg and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, police said.

The 28-year-old retreated to a home, where officers took him into custody and recovered a weapon, police said. Charges are pending.

A 30-year-old man was shot Wednesday morning in West Pullman on the Far South Side.

About 3:30 a.m., he was walking on the sidewalk in the 11900 block of South Princeton Avenue when someone in a dark-colored sedan fired shots at him, police said.

He was taken to Roseland Hospital with wounds to the right arm and buttocks, police said. He was stabilized.

Three people were shot Wednesday on roadways in Chicago, the latest of which was person who was wounded on the ramp from the Stevenson Expressway to the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Three males were in a vehicle about 1:10 a.m. when shots rang out as they were driving on the ramp from northbound Interstate 55 to northbound Interstate 94, Illinois State Police said.

The driver was shot in the back and taken to the hospital for treatment, state police said.

The front seat passenger was treated for injuries from shattered glass, and a third passenger refused medical treatment, state police said.

Ten minutes prior, two men were wounded in a shooting on Lake Shore Drive in the Gold Coast.

About 1 a.m., the men, 24 and 25, were traveling south in a Pontiac Grand Prix when a silver sedan pulled alongside them in the 1000 block of North Lake Shore Drive and fired shots, police said.

The 24-year-old was struck in the left side and the 25-year-old was struck in the left leg, police said. They were able to drive to Stroger Hospital, where they were stabilized.

Tuesday was the first day of the year without any reported shootings in Chicago.
