Woman killed, another hurt in West Garfield Park shooting

A woman was shot to death and another was wounded Oct. 10, 2020, in the 4500 block of West Wilcox Street.

Two women were shot Saturday, one of them fatally, in West Garfield Park on the West Side.

They were standing in an alley at 2:27 a.m. in the 4500 block of West Wilcox Street when someone fired the shots, striking Mieya C. Sims in the head and a 22-year-old in her right leg, Chicago police said.

Both women were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where Sims, 25, was pronounced dead, police said. The other woman was listed in good condition.

An autopsy conducted Saturday ruled Sims’ death a homicide, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. She lived in Cicero.

Area Four detectives are investigating.
