Detectives were questioning a person of interest Wednesday in the South Side shooting death of a woman who was eight months pregnant.

Doctors were unable to save Stacey Jones, 35, but delivered her baby, who was in critical condition at Comer Children’s Hospital.

Jones was a probation officer with the adult probation department, Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans said in a memo to court employees.

“Detectives are speaking to a person of interest. Charges are pending,” a Chicago police spokeswoman said in an email Wednesday. She could not provide additional information.

The shooting happened early Tuesday in the 2100 block of East 95th Place, in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood.

Jones was found lying unresponsive with two gunshots in her back, Chicago police said. The shooting did not appear to be random, police said.

Jones had two grade-school-age children, according to a neighbor.
