A 31-year-old man died after being shot Wednesday evening in Chatham on the South Side.

He was shot multiple times about 5:50 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Perry Avenue, according to from Chicago police.

Officers responded to a call of gunfire and found him lying near a sidewalk, police said.

Rapheal D. Edwards was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy conducted Thursday ruled Edwards’ death a homicide.

Police are conducting a homicide investigation.
