Man fatally shot in Gresham

A 30-year-old man was fatally shot Friday morning in Gresham on the South Side.

He was standing in an alley about 12:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of West 79th Street when someone fired shots, Chicago police said.

He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head and later pronounced dead, according to police.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Deshawn Lemont Jones. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

No one is in custody as Area Two detectives investigate.
