A man was shot and killed Friday afternoon on the Eisenhower Expressway just east of the Jane Byrne Interchange.

The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. on the inbound I-290 at Canal Street, according to Illinois State Police. The 21-year-old who was shot was dead by the time he got to the hospital, Chicago fire officials said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Nshaune Johnson. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

The shots were fired from a vehicle which was also eastbound on I-290 in the area of Canal, according to preliminary information from state police. Further details were not immediately available.

Traffic was diverted off the expressway for over four hours as police investigated the shooting. All eastbound lanes were reopened about 5:45 p.m., state police said.
