A 45-year-old man was killed and another wounded in a drive-by Wednesday in Austin on the West Side, police said.

Christopher Janel Davis and a 36-year-old man were in the 1000 block of North Central Avenue about 12:30 p.m. when someone inside a passing vehicle opened fire, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

They took themselves to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said.

Davis was shot in the chest and shoulder and died at the hospital, authorities said. The medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide. He lived in the same neighborhood where he was shot.

The 36-year-old was struck multiple times in the body and was listed in critical condition, police said.
