Gary police arrested a man following a fatal shooting Sunday afternoon in northwest Indiana.

Arnell Lackey, 25, was shot and killed about 3:26 p.m. in the 3500 block of Polk Street in Gary, according to statements from Gary police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Officers responded to calls of gunfire arrived and found Lackey lying lifeless in the front lawn of a home, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:15 p.m., the coroner’s office said. The death was ruled a homicide.

Police arrested a 26-year-old man from Gary and took him in for questioning, police said.

The case remains under investigation by Gary police and the Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit.
