A 21-year-old man from suburban Riverdale was killed in a shooting Monday in South Chicago.

He was in the street about 7 p.m. in the 2900 block of East 81st Street when he heard gunfire and felt pain, Chicago police said.

The man was struck in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

He was identified as Michael D. Archer, Jr., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

No arrests have been reported. Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
