Car thief targets vehicles left running Chatham gas station: police

In each incident victims left their vehicles running with the keys in the ignition as they went into the gas station and came back to realize their vehicles were stolen.

Two vehicles left running were stolen April, 24, 2020, from a gas station in the 8600 block of South State Street.

Chicago police are warning residents of two vehicle thefts reported in April at a gas station in Chatham on the South Side.

In each incident victims left their vehicles running with the keys in the ignition as they went into the gas station and came back to realize their vehicles were stolen, according to a community alert from Chicago police.

The thefts happened about midnight and about 6:55 p.m. April 24 in the 8600 block of South State Street, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Area South detectives at 312-747-8273.
