A man is dead and a woman in critical condition after being shot Wednesday in Back of the Yards on the South Side, police said.

The pair, both 26, were driving west in the 1100 block of West 47th Street about 3:24 p.m. when they were shot at from someone inside another vehicle, Chicago police said.

The man was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Darnell Fishback.

The woman was shot in her face and taken to the same hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, police said.

Area Central detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
