A 15-year-old boy was killed in a shooting Wednesday in Lawndale on the West Side, police said.

About 3:35 p.m., Demetrius Hardy was near South Kilbourn Avenue when someone opened fire, hitting him in the abdomen and leg, officials said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Hardy was pronounced dead half an hour later, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

A male was taken into custody, and officers recovered a gun near a backyard, Chicago police said.

Area North detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
