A 18-year-old man was shot and killed in a shootout with someone he was trying to rob Thursday in Humboldt Park on the West Side, police said.

The man exchanged gunfire during the attempted robbery about 11:25 a.m. in the 3400 block of West Augusta Boulevard, Chicago police said.

Shot in the chest, the man was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Khaalif Travoii Winters, who lived in the neighborhood.

The alleged shooter is being questioned by Area Four detectives, police said.

On Wednesday, a concealed-carry holder critically wounded a gunman who allegedly fired shots at the man first in Little Village on the Southwest Side.
