A man was fatally shot Friday in McKinley Park on the South Side, police said.

About 6:50 p.m., he was in the 3400 block of South Paulina Street when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, Chicago police said.

Sergio Cervantes, 21, was struck in the face and back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in McKinley Park.

An autopsy said Cervantes died of a gunshot wound to the back, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Area One detectives are investigating.
