A 28-year-old man was killed after he was shot in the head Friday in Englewood on the South Side.

He was sitting on a porch about 1:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Elizabeth Street when someone approached him and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The man, identified as Alexander Payne, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:39 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in Back of the Yards.

An autopsy conducted Saturday confirmed he died of his gunshot wounds, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

No one is in custody as Area One detective investigate.
