Man killed, another wounded in East Side

A man is in custody after two people were shot, one fatally, Saturday in East Side.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert about 11:05 p.m. and found two men unresponsive with gunshot wounds outside a home in the 10600 block of South Mackinaw Avenue, Chicago police said.

A 43-year-old man shot in the head and chest was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Juan Gomez Torres, and an autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Another man, 39, was struck in the torso and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

There are currently no witnesses to the shooting, police said. A man who was seen walking away from the scene after the shooting was taken into custody.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
